Misc Notes:

  • Gastroentritis
  • more incidence in fall and start of winter
  • Give an antacid like Omeprazole
  • omeprazole is far superior to the H-2 blockers famotidine and ranitidine for cats and dogs. If your goal is truly acid suppression, a proton-pump inhibitor is the way to go.
  • Abscess treatment
    • Do FNAB, evaluate if mature or not
    • Incise, put H2O2 for 3 minutes inside, wash with N.S (5% Povidine solution)
    • Insert gauzz soaked in Povidine
    • Antibiotic and anti inflamatory if indicated
  • Elementary refresher!** Plasma** is that part of the blood, which contains blood clotting agent called as fibrinogen, while serum is the fluid part of the blood and** does not** contain clotting agent. The plasma and serum can be extracted from the centrifugation of blood. The serum is obtained after the clotting of blood, while plasma can be obtained before the coagulation of the blood. Centrifugation separates the blood components by its weight, size, and density.
  • Wound Management
    • Zinc-containing antibiotics (eg, bacitracin-zinc) may also be beneficial for wound healing by the donation of zinc into the wound bed. Zinc has been shown to have both antimicrobial and antiinflammatory properties.
