These are my personal clinical notes, shared as an educational reference for veterinary professionals and students. They are not advice about your own animal. If your animal is unwell, contact your veterinarian. Always check drug doses against a current formulary and use your own clinical judgement.

👋 Welcome! You’ve stumbled upon my working notes. They began in 2020 as part of my clinical practice and my preparation for vet exams. Over time they’ve become a resource that many people have found useful for passing their own vet exams.

These notes are mostly written for myself: they’re roughly my thinking environment. If a note seems confusing or under-explained, it’s probably because I didn’t write it for you. Sorry, that’s the essential tension of writing notes for yourself first. I keep updating them, and I’d love to hear from you if something could be better: email me.

Where to start

How to navigate

Use search, the sidebar, or the links inside each note. Every note ends with Links to this note (the notes that mention it) and a small graph of related topics. The idea is to connect ideas, much like the synapses in our brains, so the notes stay evergreen and don’t turn into information overload. After all, our brains are made for thinking and solving problems, not for storing every piece of information.

The inspiration behind the notes

My approach is inspired by the Zettelkasten method, the idea of a second brain, David Allen’s Getting Things Done, and Tiago Forte’s PARA method. They all emphasise connecting ideas, which also helps with memorising, at least enough to pass the exams.

A collaborative system for clinicians

I’d like to build a system where clinicians can share cases and insights, suggest changes and contribute back after peer review, with mentorship and second opinions from vets who have passed the NAVLE or CPE or achieved board certification. I’m still working out how to pay experts for their time without hurting the culture of sharing knowledge. If that interests you, get in touch.
